Do you have room in your home to foster an animal? Then the foster program may be perfect for you. Some of our animals would really benefit from living in a home environment. Shelter life is very distressing to them.
Dog Walking Club
The HSIC Dog Walking Club meets every Wednesday morning at 9 a.m., weather permitting. This time will be adjusted to an earlier time as the weather warms up. We meet at the shelter, pick a dog to walk then transport them to the North Complex Sports Park where we walk around the walking track twice. Usually this takes about 25-30 minutes and then we go back to the shelter. This gives the dog needed time away from the shelter, the opportunity to experience new sights and sounds and some one-on-one attention with the human walking them. It also builds their confidence, teaches them to walk on a leash and gives the dogs some basic training. Fearful dogs come to realize that the world and the people in it are really not all that bad!
Petsense Meet & Greet
Volunteers take a couple of dogs to Petsense for a few hours to showcase them to the public in hopes of finding them forever homes. Petsense currently houses up to six of our cats at a time. The dogs have to be taken on Saturdays.
Volunteers are always needed to help with the many fundraisers throughout the year. Please check out our Facebook Page to find the ones you wish to assist in.
It is an ongoing task to keep all animals on petfinder.com with photos and descriptions. If you are good at taking photos and have patience PLEASE help us keep our pets current. Also need videos of animals on Petfinder and YouTube.
Can't foster a pet, but would like to have one for the week or weekend. Then try a sleepover. We love for our animals to experience home environments and to receive lots of attention and the sleepover accomplishes both goals.
Volunteers can come to the facility to help in many daily activities.
